An earthquake, 8.1 on the Richter scale, has triggered alarms of a potential tsunami. The earthquake is said to have hit near the Kermadec Islands. with high waves being reported an hour ago in Tokomaru Bay. Hawaiian residents were given a tsunami alert earlier today and advised to stay away from beaches.

Reports released mentioned three different earthquakes with the highest at 8.1 magnitude and lowest is 7.3 in magnitude. Projected affected areas include New Zealand, Fiji, and America Samoa. Hawaii earlier alert has been revoked as experts predict the earthquake will not affect the Hawaiian Islands.
As of early today, tsunami alerts have been revoked as experts believe the threat of one has subside.
